We all know the line, “Once upon a time . . .”
While this particular opening is typically reserved for the fantastical world of children’s fairy tales, its meaning is universal. It serves to welcome you, the reader, into the world the author has created — filled with interesting stories, memorable characters, and, most importantly, a unique point of view.
At Nymeria, we want to introduce you to a new perspective on the publishing world where the heroes look a little different than your knights in shining armor and Prince Charmings. Here, female and non-binary authors are taking center stage. Our founders, Sarah Caro and Kennedy Champitto, are writing their own version of the publishing journey, complete with fresh stories from voices not often found in the mainstream.
Learn a little more about our two leaders and get a peek at what’s to come from Nymeria below.
How did you get your start as a writer?
Kennedy Champitto: I started writing short horror stories after falling in love with Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King’s pieces when I was about 10 years old.
Sarah Caro: I started writing on the writing platform, Wattpad, where I mainly read the stories there but decided to try my hand at writing and get the voices and characters out of my head. It was the first place I really got to showcase my writing and enjoy creating stories.
What inspires you as a writer?
SC: My inspiration comes from the TV shows, movies, and books I love so much. Seeing the worlds and stories come to life on screen and in the pages is so inspiring and motivating to me as a writer.
KC: Most of my inspiration comes from things I am/have experienced in my life. Whether it be directly or indirectly.
Why did you create Nymeria?
KC: It is extremely important to me to give a voice to marginalized and new writers who are struggling to have their voices heard.
SC: I wanted to create a personal and authentic environment between author and publisher where new writers can feel comfortable and confident in sharing their stories.
What can writers and readers expect from Nymeria?
KC: Our readers can expect books from authors with strong voices in multiple genres. And authors can expect a publisher who has their best interests in mind and fights for the author's voice to be heard.
SC: Readers can expect new stories in different genres from authors who have fresh and passionate voices to be heard. Authors can expect a fair and authentic publisher who is on their side because we are on their sides as writing peers ourselves.
